Planar hits 15,000:1 contrast ratio with HD newcomers

Planar PD8150Speciality display innovator Planar is launching a brace of new 1080p projectors. Housed in stunningly curved and richly lacquered piano black cabinets with metal flake accents, the PD8150 and PD8130 offer the advanced performance and tuning versatility that custom integrators and their customers demand.

A super low noise and low light pollution cabinet design preserves the stunning visual impact of the projectors’ advanced 1080p DLP® architecture, customized video processing and high performance optics. The PD8150 and PD8130 offer state-of-the-art Dynamic Black™ and BrilliantColor™ image enhancement together with advanced Gennum VPX video processing.

DLP® Dynamic Black uses the full dynamic range of the DMD while dynamically controlling contrast with light aperture control. Bright scenes appear brighter while dark scenes maintain great depth of detail. Viewers no longer have to choose between brightness and contrast, they can have both. BrilliantColor™ processes up to 6 colours for nearly 50% brighter colours.

Planar’s customized Gennum VPX image processing and scaling give the PD8150 and PD8130 an astonishingly clean, smooth and vibrant image endowed with natural colours and an amazing contrast ratio of 15000:1 (PD8130 10000:1) at 1,000 max lumens.

Compatibility with all HD formats is assured through sixteen HD video timings, including 1080p 24Hz. The PD8150 and PD8130 are calibrated to D65 standards out of the box, and include selectable DLP frame rate control – Auto, 48Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz.

Other user features include six position full HD PIP and PBP, automatic ceiling mode detection, horizontal and vertical lens shift (vertical only on PD8130). Comprehensive connectivity includes two HDMI 1.3 inputs, RS232, two component (one only on PD8130), two composite, RGB HD and two triggers, which can be assigned to one of six separate functions.

Both projectors offer a sophisticated suite of fine calibration tools designed to allow custom installers and tuners the means to optimize performance for all conditions. Features include ISF day and night calibration memory settings, ten individual sharpness controls, four individual noise reduction controls, three programmable image memory selection keys, eleven built-in test patterns and a dark room-optimized remote designed with a low-light theatres in mind.
